The Birth

On Thursday we were talking about the shopping we would do over the weekend, and where we wanted to go out for dinner on our anniversary.

Then Friday morning, around 6AM, Keirsten's water broke. We both figured that meant we'd be headed to the hospital, but didn't think there would be too much rush. So we got cleaned up and K called the doctor. He surprised us both by telling us to come to the hospital right away. So we quickly packed up a bag or two of things we thought we'd need and headed off to Emerson.

We got to the hospital around 8AM, and though the doctor there wasn't convinced that K's water had really broken, she decided that her contractions were close enough together to keep us there.

Shortly before noon, it didn't look like K had progressed very far. Then the contractions became really painful, really suddenly and K quickly decided to get the epidural. Given her fear of needles, you can imagine what kind of pain she must have been feeling.

After getting the epidural, she couldn't really feel the contractions at all and very quickly got to the point where she was ready to push. At that point, the doctor was juggling two patients, K and another woman in the room next door, who were ready to push out their babies at the same time.

So Keirsten had to wait, while the other woman gave birth. Then, after only 20 minutes of pushing, Zoe was born.

Keirsten highly recommends the epidural.

I've put up more pictures, and will keep adding to this flickr set in the future:

Another gamer's character is rolled up... or something. :)

So, I take it Origins is out this year? If so, we'll miss ya in the lab!
