Apple Butter
So, in addition to finishing a depressing but good book, I've also been spending the day at my Aunt Pam's house, making apple butter.

We started this morning with 48 pounds of apples, and have worked our way down to two 16 quart pots of 'would be apple butter' cooking down on the stove. One of us gets up to stir every ten minutes. Pam says that with any luck we'll start jarring around 11. It's going to be a long night...

Getting up every ten minutes to stir has me thinking in ten minute increments. It's pretty impressive how much goes on during the course of ten minutes. Which got me thinking, wouldn't it be a cool photo project, to take a picture every ten minutes, for a whole day. I think I'd have to try it on the weekend sometime, but I think I'll give it a shot. If nothing else it'd be fun. And with my digital camera it's not like it'll cost me anything.

48 pounds of apples seems to make more apple butter than 50 pounds of apples makes applesauce. I think I got about 10 (in various sized jars, so thats not an exact number) quarts of applesauce last time I went apple picking. Lots of people will be getting applesauce fore Christmas. Teach me to get greedy and keep picking...
