Blech
Sigh.
Shortly after getting home from Origins last week, I developed a cough that wouldn't go away. By this past weekend, it was keeping me up at night. So monday I went to ask the Dr. about it, and she prescribed a narcotic cough supressant and nasal spray, and told me it was allergies. Causing a nasal drip into the back of my throat that was causing the cough.
That's all well and good, but the cough medicine doesn't seem to be cutting it (I still wake up ~hourly coughing), and last night I broke out in hives, and couldn't get to sleep at all because of the constant itching! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Nedless to say I'm trying to get in to see the Dr. again today.
Wish me luck!

sounds like you are allergic to one of the meds the Dr prescribed. It also sounds like your Dr prescribed medications to treat your symptoms but not the actual problem. If you are having allergies that cause sinus draining that cause a cough, the problem is not the cough. the problem is the allergies. you should be on an antihistamine. Ask for Allegra or just get Claritin over the counter. If you don't even want to get that fancy, try Dristan.

Yeah, this is not my regular Dr, and I think she's just guessing. After I told her about the reaction, she took me off of those drugs, and put me on Robitussin DM and anti-biotics. Wheee. Hopefully the hives will go away.
Thanks for the advice. If I get through the anti-biotic, and it's still there, Claritin is my next stop.

Over the counter Claritin is a truly wonderful and beautiful thing. The generic stuff is just as good as the name brand stuff.

Try an oatmeal bath for the hives. I know it sounds hideous and messy, but it worked for me when I had chicken pox and when I eat rye bread by mistake. You should be able to get some that will dissolve well in water in the pharmacy section.

An oatmeal bath, eh? I've never heard of that. I may have to check it out if the hives keep me from sleep again tonight.
Thanks!
